As Earth Peoples United prepares to rebuild the Pop Jay Council House at Deer Mountain Sanctuary, we are called to deepen our understanding of the ancient wisdom that gave rise to this sacred structure.
The Pop Jay is not simply a ceremonial arbor — it is a three-dimensional living codex, carrying teachings about sacred geometry, human consciousness, and the organization of harmonious societies. Its design reflects an ancient system of governance and relationship known as the Kalpul, which organized communities through shared responsibility, service, and balance.
In this special three-part teaching series, Mayan Spiritual Guide Tat Erick Gonzalez will share the deeper meaning behind the Pop Jay’s design and the ancient principles it embodies. These teachings offer guidance for how humanity can restore balance with one another and with the Earth during this time of great transition.

Throughout 2026, Earth Peoples United invites our community to gather at Deer Mountain Sanctuary for Hands on the Land Days — dedicated weekends of service, connection, and communiity work.
Over Memorial Weekend we will be Rebuilding the Pop Jay, EPU’s Sacred Council House.
Spend the weekend immersed in purposeful work — tending ceremonial spaces, contributing to the future of Deer Mountain, and strengthening community through service. You’ll get your hands dirty, experience parts of the mountain rarely visited, and take part in something that will serve generations to come.

Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) Monitor Training
Are you ready to take your ecological skills to the next level?
Join us for an immersive six-day Hybrid Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) Monitor Training at the stunning Deer Mountain Sanctuary, a 2000 acre regenerating ranch just north of Mt Shasta, in Montague, CA. This course is a prerequisite to receiving an EOV Monitor Endorsement through the Savory Institute and offers a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on field training with Savory Field Professional and EOV Master Verifier Jackie Eshelman. Learn to use ecological indicators to understand how our management practices impact the ecosystem and use monitoring data to make management decisions that improve ecosystem function.
Annual Earth Wisdom Gathering
This year, two sacred cycles align.
Our annual Earth Wisdom Gathering is held on the days surrounding the summer solstice when the sun reaches its highest point and the Earth is filled with light. This year, it coincides with Waqxaqui (8) B’atz — the sacred day that serves as the ceremonial heartbeat of Earth Peoples United, returning every 260 days, which next happens on June 22, 2026.
For our community, 8 B’atz is a time of renewal, gratitude, and remembering our spiritual path. It is when we gather around the Mayan Fire to give thanks for the cycle that has passed and to begin the next one with clarity and intention.
When these two sacred cycles align — the solar cycle of the Earth and the sacred calendar of the Maya — it becomes a powerful moment to come together in ceremony, prayer, and community.
Join us for a ceremonial, land-based gathering at Deer Mountain Sanctuary, where we will spend several days living in rhythm with the land — tending the sacred fire, sharing teachings, and strengthening the bonds that hold our community together.

Community Mayan Fire Ceremony in Santa Ynez, CA
Come make offerings for the Earth and a good path for your life in the Central Coast of California for a Community Mayan Fire Ceremony on Sunday, July 19th.
Join us in a collective prayer in the Mayan tradition of creating a Stargate Fire to give gratitude, request healing, and make offerings for our Mother Earth at this ceremonial fireplace in Southern California (Santa Ynez).
Followed by a potluck, please bring a prepared dish to share.
Suggested loving donation: $20 and up to support our Medicine People and cover ceremonial materials.

Summer Women's Weekend - July/Aug 2026
In-Person: This Earth Day, we invite you to join us for a women’s weekend of ceremony, connection, and renewal on the land with Nan Heddi Gonzalez-Neale at Deer Mountain Sanctuary north of Mt Shasta, CA.
This time together offers space to step away from the pace of daily life and return to the rhythms of nature, community, and self. As women, we gather to support one another, share from the heart, and be held by Mother Earth and the Grandmother Lodge so that we can source ourselves and return renewed as pillars of our homes and communities.
Over the course of the weekend, we will:
Gather in circle and shared meals
Prepare and enter the purification (sweat) lodge
Connect to the sacred fire
Offer prayers with water and the land
Rest, reflect, and connect in sisterhood
Time at the creek, moments of quiet, and simple acts of preparing food together are all part of the medicine of the weekend — weaving relationship with one another and with the natural world.
Participants will arrive Friday afternoon to settle into camp and begin our time together in circle. Early Saturday morning we will travel to the ceremonial grounds to prepare the fire and lodge, followed by the purification ceremony and time for rest and integration. On Sunday, we will gather at sunrise for prayer and offerings, and close our time together in a spirit of gratitude and connection.
