All traditions recognize the inevitable journey of each of us to go into the depths to face the darkness so that we can become the hero of our own lives. We descend, not because we want to, but because we find ourselves in the challenges of a world of illusion, personal loss, chaos, vulnerability, and mortality. Yet there is much to help us rise again, stronger and more authentic than before. Through this process we release, reconnect, and birth anew. We build faith in our connection and our inner warrior.  

In the Mayan Creation Story of the Popul Vuh, regarded as one of the most ancient and sacred texts of the Maya, the stories of the hero twins defeating the Lords of the Underworld involve relationships among elementals, supernaturals, animals, and humans. These archetypal and universal stories offer wisdom to recognize the systems used by our ego and the modern world to give up in our efforts to transform and liberate ourselves.

Taught by Mayan Spiritual Guide Tat Erick Gonzalez, this oral tradition videoconference teaching covered different “houses” of the underworld, helping us identify the challenges at this time and how to transform them into taking action towards crystallizing what we want for the New Era that began on December 21, 2012.
