A 5-Day Integrated Land Stewardship Clinic for Wildfire Protection & Watershed Resilience

Join us for Tending the Veld, an immersive 5-day land stewardship clinic rooted in respect for place, process, and people. Held at the majestic Deer Mountain Sanctuary—just minutes from the newly freed Klamath River—this course is designed for land stewards, ecological practitioners, and community members seeking real skills and deeper connection in caring for the land.
The word Veld comes from the dryland savannas of South Africa, describing a semi-wild space between home and wilderness—where fire, animals, and people work together to manage and regenerate landscapes. Here in the American West, we too stand at the edge of recovery.
From gullied waterways to overcrowded forests, our landscapes are calling for healing. This hands-on clinic will guide participants through the practices of Process-Based Restoration (PBR) and strategic fuels reduction, using natural materials and traditional knowledge to restore stream channels, reduce fire risk, and reawaken biodiversity.

Stream structure building for erosion control & water retention
Forest management & fuels reduction for fire resilience
Material sourcing techniques that double as ecological thinning
Planning & designing restoration-based land management
Fire cycles, grazing systems, and Indigenous perspectives
Deep ecology of the Klamath Mountains and the role of salmon
…and much more with special guest presenters
This is more than a course. It’s a reconnection—with the Earth, with our purpose, and with each other.

Includes camping on-site + one nourishing meal per day
