Hearts & Hands on the Land — 2026 | Deer Mountain Sanctuary | Montague, CA
Throughout the summer and into the fall, Earth Peoples United invites you to gather at Deer Mountain Sanctuary for our ongoing series of volunteer weekends we call Hearts & Hands on the Land.
These weekends are dedicated days of shared work, community, and meaningful connection to the land. They are an invitation to come into relationship with this sacred place through your hearts, your hands, your presence, and your care. From Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, we gather to tend the land in reciprocity for all that she gives to us.
The Work
Projects vary by season and the needs of the land, and may include:
Regenerative gardening and permaculture
Animal care and fencing
Trail and land maintenance
Fire ecology and brush clearing
Building and repair projects
Tending the ceremonial grounds
Some projects are guided; others are self-directed for those who bring particular skills or experience.
No experience is required — just a willingness to show up and do good work together.
Community & Meals
Meals and kitchen responsibilities are shared communally — think hearty soups, grain and protein bowls, fresh salads, baked bread, and easy picnic lunches eaten wherever the day's work takes us. We will share weekend menus and grocery lists prior to the event. We ask everyone to bring food to contribute, along with fresh fruit and beverages to share. Evenings gather naturally, potentially around the fire, where we will share stories, music, and the kind of connection that comes from a good day's work.
Vegetarian and gluten-free options are typically available. Participants with specific dietary needs should plan to bring supplemental food.
