The Echo of the Four Directions

Boulder Colorado August 6th through August 15th 2026

This week-long council is an invitation to enter the living teachings of Tata Erick Gonzalez and the mission of Earth People’s United. It is a gathering of hearts and communities coming together in remembrance that the Earth is calling humanity back into unity, peace, and shared purpose. Rooted in Earth Wisdom, the council, teachings and ceremonies offer a space for reflection, prayer, and dialogue on how we may walk in right relationship with ourselves, one another, and all of creation, so that all living beings may flourish in harmony.

Oral tradition is the sacred passing of wisdom from one generation to the next through stories, teachings, songs, prayers, and ceremony. It is more than words being spoken; it is the sharing of spirit, memory, and living knowledge carried through the hearts of the people. We are honored to receive the wisdom of the ancient Mayan traditions through the counsel of Tata Erick Gonzalez, OmeAkaEhekatl.

This is an invitation to journey through the Mayan Medicine Wheel as a path of healing, remembrance, and transformation. EPU offers an introduction to the four sacred directions and the four elements, which opens the doorway to understanding how ancient wisdom can guide us and harmonize with our modern way of life.

Each element—Fire, Earth, Water, and Air—carries its own medicine and teachings. This brings healing and balance to our mind, body, emotions, and spirit. These elemental energies are held within the sacred directions of East, South, West, and North. As we move toward each direction, we deepen our connection with the living essence of these four elements and the wisdom they carry for our lives.

On the second day of this immersive journey, we receive the teachings of the Water and the Air.

In the West, lies the element of Water, carrying the medicine of purification, flow, and balance. Here, we understand the harmony of our emotional world, as the waters teach us to release old wounds, grief, and stagnation so we may return to peace, clarity, and renewal.

The element of Air brings harmony and clarity to our spiritual wellness. In the Northern direction, we are invited into deep remembrance of who we truly are. Air teaches us to quiet the mind, open the heart, and listen with greater awareness to the voice of spirit moving within and around us. Here, we begin to understand what our soul genuinely needs to thrive. Like the breath itself, Air reminds us that spirit is always present, gently guiding us back to ourselves.

Describe the evening events here

Join EPU in a Mayan Fire Ceremony. We welcome you to step into a connection that extends beyond the individual—into the great web of life that holds us all. Mayan fire ceremonies have long been a way to carry good wishes, loving intentions, and prayers into the universe. The fire becomes a beacon—illuminating the path between this world, the spiritual realms, and the stars.

The Sacred Fire serves as a bridge between humanity and the unseen—ancestors, guardians, and the greater cosmic forces that guide and sustain life. Through the fire, prayers are spoken in a language beyond words.  Traditionally, offerings are placed into the Mayan Fire for many purposes. Offerings are an expression of gratitude—a way of saying: we remember, we honor, we give back. They are also given for cleansing, healing, and transformation, helping to restore harmony within both the individual and communities.
